What is your favorite smell? What does it remind you of?

There are SO many smells that I love, especially in the Fall, but I will try to narrow it down to some that I have recently enjoyed.  At the grocery store, they have already set out the traditional giant bin of cinnamon-soaked decorative brooms in the front area by the cart pick-up, and now every time I go there, I pause for a few moments to just breathe them in.

Also, Charles and I stopped by the Yellow Daisy Festival last Friday morning, and there was a booth full of potpourri mixtures, dried fruit garlands, drink mixes, and little samples of hot apple cider.  I lingered there for quite a while, pretending that I wasn't already sticky in the hot sun, and that I was instead actually sitting on a porch swing up in the Blue Ridge Mountains, with dry leaves crunching underneath my feet as I pushed myself slowly back and forth.

In Myrtle Beach, I look forward to smelling the salty sea air, suntan lotion and the faint scent of chlorine in the hotel lobby as it wafts down from the indoor pool.  After that, it will be time to start lighting pumpkin pie scented candles at home, and sniffing the air outside when someone is burning leaves.  Eventually, when it becomes cold enough to turn on the central heat (which I  can barely imagine needing - I don't even remember what cold weather feels like after this long, miserable summer) there will be a hint of burning dust in the air as it burns off, which technically probably isn't a "good" smell, but I like it because it makes me feel like I'm about to be cozy.

Some non-seasonal scents I enjoy regularly are the way the dog smells like buttered toast when she wakes up in the morning after a night curled up under the covers, the way my hair smells when I wash it with Pert, towels fresh out of the dryer and Charles' neck.  Mmmmm...good stuff.
